Healthy snacking on the go: Nuts


Healthy snacking on the go tips continues. Today’s tip is, nuts. I absolutely adore are nuts. Not the roasted and salted kind but the plain and natural ones. Ages ago I could not imagine eating plain nuts, I thought they were awfully boring but now I adore them. You do not realise how flavoursome they are without the added salt. Once you are used to it you think you were silly for ever needing added salt or sweetness. Plus it is a lot better for you.

My absolute favourite nut by far is cashew nuts (they are actually seeds). I love the slightly sweet and almost creamy consistency of them. Once I start eating them, I find it difficult to stop! A bonus with cashews is that they have slightly less fat than other nuts. Even though they are healthy fats there is such a thing as too much of a good thing unfortunately. This means that you can have a little bit extra of them though. Hehe.

Cashews are also incredibly good for your heart and is high magnesium (good for your bones and your muscles amongst other things).

To work I bring in a small container of about a handful of mixed nuts and a banana as one of my snacks to keep me going and to keep me energised. So easy to take with you and yet so delicious.

Some of my favourite nuts (and some of their benefits):

  • Cashews
  • Walnuts (shaped like a brain because it has incredible benefits for it)
  • Almonds (High in Vitamin E and amazing for your hair and skin)
  • Pistachios (can help lower your cholesterol)
  • Pecans (good for you heart)
