Second last day of the year

Photo of my wonderful friend Marija and I at my birthday dinner a couple of months ago

Hi lovelies,

It’s Friday! I started the day off with another Open Gym at Gym G5. Stella had some great workouts on the board for us to choose from and I finished 3 out of 4, which was good. There were a lot of arm exercises going on and towards the end everything was tired and painful in my arms haha.

Afterwards I headed into town to pick up some bits. I got paid today and had to restock on some skincare products so nothing too exciting but definitely necessary. I’ve been getting random breakouts recently and it’s really starting to bother me. So today I spent some time in the Lush shop and got help from a girl who worked there who talked me through their skincare and showed me how to use everything. I eventually managed to pick some products out. I’m hoping I’ll see a difference in my skin and if not I’ll keep on trying different products until I find something that works for me. I’m so tired of my skin acting up.

I also grabbed a vegan Banana Butter shake from Prep Fitness Kitchen since I was quite hungry after my workout. Berta who I used to work with at Juice Garden was in working so it was good to see her and chat for a bit.

Tonight I’ve been invited out for drinks with my friend Faye and her boyfriend Ross who have booked a couple of tables at a pub. I’ll see if I’ll go or not, it depends a bit on how I feel and what I’ve gotten done before then.

Have you guys got any nice New Year’s Eve plans? I’m going for a dinner with my friend Marija (in the photo) and her boyfriend Kerr at Kerr’s brother’s and girlfriend’s flat. Jamie is working until 10 so he’ll be joining us afterwards. I was hoping he would finish earlier but I’m glad he is at least off before the bells. I’m really looking forward to it. Dinner on New Year’s is what I love, I’m not a massive fan of this holiday but as long as I spend it with people I love I’m happy.

Trying to stay busy

Hope you’re having a wonderful day whether you are still enjoying a bit of time off from work or if you are back at the office working away. In lack of other photos, I stumbled across this photo Jamie took of me when we were hill walking this spring. What a wonderful day it was! I hope we get a chance to do more hill climbing in the new year. I would love to get out of the city more.

Jamie didn’t start work until one so we got a chance to spend some time together. We’ve become hooked on this card game called Stress and Jamie won all three rounds. It was way too early in the morning for my brain to function for that game… After that we watched the final episode of Bake Off with Sue, Mel and Mary on it. I cried at the end when they showed the good bye and thank you bit (it was very emotional okay). That show will never be the same without that incredible team of people. I’m so sad it’s leaving the BBC.

When Jamie left for work I headed to the gym. I did a mix of exercises, a bit of cardio, deadlifts, squats, cleans, all the fun stuff! I also did some core exercises for the first time in a while and wow I felt the burn. I used be obsessed with doing core workouts but now I’ve gone a bit off it and have focused more on other movements that targets the entire body. It felt to get the core working a bit extra though.

With all my friends and Jamie being busy working I’ve just tried to keep myself busy. I’ve applied for some jobs and am hoping for the best. I can’t think about the fact that I’m unemployed too much, it stresses me out. I am a person who loves when lots of stuff is happening and keeping busy so it will take me some time readjust to being less busy until I find a new job.

This evening I booked in for a class at the Kali Collective with Steph. It was a 1.5 hour Vinyasa Flow class and it was intense. My legs were on fire at one point I swear! I figured instead of sitting at home rewatching The O.C I should do something that’s a bit more of an investment in myself and wellbeing. At the end I almost fell asleep in savasana, I felt so relaxed and refreshed. I need to get to another one of Steph’s classes soon.

Time to tidy up after dinner and relax a bit before bed. Have a lovely evening everyone x

Post Christmas training

I don’t think I’m the only one that’s been letting loose a bit when it comes to food for the last couple of days. The Christmas weekend was just a big eating spree and I wasn’t sure when I’d properly get back to training again. Luckily we’d planned a Boxing day bootcamp in the showroom before I left so that I knew I was already going to. Then on Monday evening Stella posted on Facebook saying she was opening the gym for a bit on Tuesday morning. I didn’t really feel super excited about going for some reason in the morning but Jamie being the encouraging guy he is said that I’d feel so great afterwards and it’s so true I thought so off I went.

Stella had planned a killer workout for us to put some of that extra food to good use and afterwards we were all dead but felt so great to be moving again. It’s crazy what an effect exercise has on my wellbeing and how I feel. Then today we were back on it again in the morning. We had four workouts to pick and choose from and I was happy that I managed to power through three of them. My arms were dead in the end.

I think it’s so important to try and get back into routine of going to the gym and exercising as soon as you can after being on holiday or after the festive period when gyms tend to be closed. It’s easy to use that as an excuse to not move at all (we’ve all been there). If you leave it too long after the gyms are open again it will be even more difficult to go back. I hate the feeling when you’re at the gym and feel like you have to start from scratch because you’ve lost all that strength you built up. It’s way easier to bounce back when you are fitter but frustrating when you know you have done better.

I’ve been taking it a bit easier this week with exercising and moving because of it being the week before Christmas and New Years but I’ll  be back in full blast with my training next week when the gyms are back to normal again. I really want to get back into going to yoga once a week at least. It helps me in so many ways too but I feel like I’ve fallen out of love with it a little bit recently. Definitely on my to-do list in the New Year.

Christmas Day with my love

Christmas Day with Jamie was just lovely. I’m used to a full house but it was quite relaxing being just the two of us all day. I woke up before Jamie and got up to prepare breakfast. I had some of my vegan Santa porridge, Swedish Christmas bread (vörtbröd) and made a fruit salad. Jamie went wild on the bread and cheese and helped me eat the fruit salad too.

When the breakfast had been eaten we got to work, I had prepared some bits of our Christmas lunch in advance but we still had a lot of sides to go. The main issue was not having enough oven space! I would love to have two ovens in my future kitchen to be able to prepare big feasts like these. It such a lovely couple of hours listening to Christmas music and slowly seeing a delicious feast forming on our table.

Eventually when we sat down, we were both starving and oh my goodness, I ate sooo much haha. The nut roast I made using Deliciously Ella’s recipe tasted amazing, Jamie gave it a thumbs up. It felt a bit odd not eating traditional Christmas food, I’m not going to lie, but I loved everything we had made.

After lunch we started watching Elf before the Bake Off Christmas special. Jamie fell asleep, slight food coma. We had to pause Elf after a while so we would have time to open our presents. We combined Swedish and Scottish traditions, in Sweden you open your gifts on the evening of Christmas Eve but in Scotland you open them in the morning on Christmas Day. So we opened them in the evening on Christmas Day. We laughed and said if we ever had children they would hate this, they would probably be the last kids to get their presents.

Jamie spoiled me and got me a beautiful Ralph Lauren jumper, I absolutely love their jumpers and live in my green one I got in New York so this one will definitely come to good use. The jumper he got was a bit big (all the smaller sizes were sold out) so tomorrow we’ll go back to the shop to see if they have one in my size. Can’t wait to wear it! My other present was tickets for us to see Cirque de Soleil. I’ve been to their shows before and they are absolutely incredible so I can’t wait for us to go. Jamie’s never been so that’s going to be so exciting.

Jamie got a Ted Baker holdall weekend bag from me, which I know he’s been wanting for ages. I was so happy I could get it for him and he was so happy. I gave him two smaller gifts for him to go with his bag and based of these gifts he had to guess what the big present was and he got it right. I wasn’t sure he would haha. The smaller gifts I gave were a pair of lululemon boxers the No Boxer Boxers (I’ve heard from so many guys that they are life changing and today when Jamie tried them on he said they were the comfiest things ever) and a book, since he’s a Harry Potter fan like me he got “Quidditch Through the Ages”. I will of course be borrowing it off him.

After Bake Off (I feel asleep and missed the ending unfortunately) we spoke to Jamie’s family for a bit and then finished watching Elf whilst eating cheese.

It was such a lovely Christmas and I’m so happy that after all these years Jamie and I finally got to spend it together. Next year I would love to have our families with us too. That would be amazing.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas too! Let me know what you got up to. I would love to hear.
