Hi lovelies! How are you doing today? I hope you’ve had a great start to your day so far. I’m getting really excited for Thursday and SLTN Awards where Jamie is up this year again for Mixologist of the Year here in Scotland. It’s the second year in a row he’s been nominated and I’m really hoping he’ll win. Please cross your fingers for him.

Last year when we went it was such a fun event so whether he wins or not I know it will be an amazing evening. We even get to stay over at the Hilton for a night so it will be a fun little staycation only 15 minutes from our flat haha. Up until Thursday I’ve got some pretty busy work days coming up which should be fun too.

I mentioned a bit about our workout on Sunday and since the weather was so nice we got some really nice photos from our outdoor session I thought I would show a little bit of what we got up to. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the weather was and you could almost have pretended it was a warm day looking at the images but it was freezing. However, running about the carpark with a heavy ball, kettlebells and lunging with plate over your head does warm you up a bit. This time of year I barely sweat when I train because I struggle to stay warm when it’s so chilly outside. Anyone else have the same problem? I find it quite weird not to sweat when I’m training. It’s that indicator to you get when you’ve been working hard so it’s odd when you don’t get sticky haha… Sort of the same feeling when you don’t have sore muscles the next day after a training session when you were expecting to.

As I said, because it was so sunny and in Scotland we rarely see the sun 😛 We took our gym kit and went outside of the gym. Lauren, Faye and I took turns running to the other side of the car park with a 30kg ball on our shoulder. It’s so tough!! After six minutes of that we carried on with Farmers Carries. They are great for the core and grip strength. We used 28kg kettlebells and again took turns, this time speed walking down the car park, with a six minute time cap. The final of this part of the session was to do overhead walking lunges with 20kg plate. This fired up the core as well. A lot of focus is required to keep the plate over your head. We did this three times each.

That was a really great and different warm up from our usual stuff! Then we moved inside and practiced clean and jerks. Those pesky cleans and jerks… We started light and added weight until we got to 50kg and I started struggling. I got the 50kg over my head but then trying anything heavier it just didn’t go. Faye on the other hand smashed it and got all the way to 58kg! What a machine she is. She makes it look so effortless as well. On me you can tell every single emotion I’m feeling in my facial expression haha. No poker face whatsoever…

The cherry on top of this session was practicing more pull ups. Surprise!

Oh god, I just have to give yesterday evening’s class at G5 a mention. Stella was at it with this one! I wanted to lie down and pass out in the middle of it. I mentioned earlier in this post that I don’t really sweat this time of year. I take that back haha. Yesterday it was streaming! My baby hair was sticking right out to the sides in my ponytail. I was making cave woman noises. It wasn’t pretty at all but that’s it, fitness isn’t these filtered Instagram photos you see. It captures a moment in time  (why I try to upload and share images of me looking like death as well haha.

You put yourself out there and you’re vulnerable. It can really hurt and you can get disappointed. I was disappointed yesterday when I thought I had down 40kg clean and jerks and at the end of the class Faye told me I had used a 15kg bar and it had been 35kg instead haha. That was annoying and I can tell you, I thought 35kg was tough yesterday. That sucked but it happens. I learned to double check my weight for next time. Fitness isn’t a selfie in the mirror. Fitness is working and moving. It’s about pushing yourself and progressing. Yesterday it wasn’t pretty but I don’t care about if I looked and sounded like a cave woman, at least I’m trying and that’s all I care about. It’s very liberating!
