Hi guys! Hope you’re having a beautiful day so far! I’m having a way better day today than the ending of yesterday. For some reason for the first time in ages I was just craving peanut butter on toast before the gym so I thought, why not? I don’t eat that crappy bread from the supermarket at all these days (I later on realised why) but I thought once wouldn’t hurt because life is all about balance. It was a bad decision on my end.
My stomach felt so bad, it bloated, it got gurgly and I felt nauseous. Exactly what you want to feel when you are going to the gym for a workout!! I pushed through the workout later on and felt a bit better for moving but it was not easy to move when you felt really heavy and that your stomach was bouncing about all over the place. When I got home Jamie just sat me down on the sofa and made me ginger water to soothe my stomach.
Safe to say I won’t be eating that kind of bread anytime soon. I think it might be that I don’t really eat any food with chemicals and additives like what you can find in the supermarket off the shelf loaves and my stomach had no idea how to process it. I used to have great issues with my stomach and bloating before but have managed to calm it down through the use of MSM (don’t take it anymore, probably should but haven’t had a chance to get more) and haven’t really had any massive problems with my stomach since.
Sitting there with my gurgly stomach reminded me of how important it is to eat good food. Our body needs good fuel to feel good and perform. I’m not saying I always eat super healthy but I try to eat mainly home cooked food so I know what I put in my body. Looking at the ingredients of that loaf you would probably find all kinds of nasties, which is why my stomach reacted that way.
So if you’re not feeling a hundred percent when training or just in general, look at your diet and think whether you know what you’re putting in your body. Are you eating mainly home cooked meals with ingredients you know the names of? Food has such an influence over our bodies. I felt extremely frustrated yesterday with my bloated stomach as I felt it was so unnecessary to feel that way. To be fair I’d forgotten how unwell that kind of bread makes me feel, it’s happened before but I had sort of forgotten since it’s been so long in between. This doesn’t mean I never eat bread, if it’s homemade or baked in a nice little bakery I do love a slice or two once in a while.
We all make mistakes when it comes to diet and training. I’m not even sure it’s really a mistake, it’s just something that sometimes happens, it’s part of the journey and the process. Sometimes you just take a wrong turn but you learn from it for next time. I really try not to regret eating something because I don’t like having guilt around food but when it makes you feel that unwell it’s hard not to because it is avoidable. You just need to learn what your body likes and dislikes. Maybe I should actually keep track of those things my body dislikes and write it down somewhere because feeling like I did yesterday is not nice at all. We live we, learn don’t we?
Do you guys struggle with food making you feel unwell or bloated?
