Hi lovelies! Happy Lucia! It’s a Swedish tradition that every 13th December to have a Lucia train of people singing in white gowns and candles to sing all over Sweden and serve “lussekatter”, saffron buns to brighten up during the darkest day of December. The Lucia is usually a girl and she wears a crown candles in her hair. When I was in school I got to be Lucia one day and I remember feeling the hot wax from the candles dripping down my hair and at the end across my face! It was really fun but stressful with all that wax everywhere. I miss these traditions when I’m not home. To make up for it I’m listening to the Lucia playlist on Spotify and tomorrow Jamie and I are baking lussekatter and pepparkakor (gingerbread) to get into the spirit.
Since Ellie has been staying over at Jamie’s and mine quite a lot recently I thought it was about time she came with me to the gym, yesterday it happened. Instead of going to G5 we went down to my friends at Fly and used their gym. Nice with a change of scenery and great to see Ross and David! I got her to to go on the assault bike for the first time and she’s the first person I’ve seen look alright after being on it for the first time.
After some rowing, burpees and assault bike fun to warm up we then moved on to some weights. Since Ellie is more of a runner she doesn’t really do a lot of heavier weights so it was fun to get her to do some heavier lifts. We did some overhead work with strict presses and push presses, then moved on to front squats and deadlifts. We finished off with reattempting my max hand release push ups in a minute for my Rainhill seeding. Ellie was awesome at it and I improved my score by six more reps. It’s funny how you can push through when you’ve got a benchmark from previous attempts to beat. I’m feel very done with those now!
I need to get a move on with finishing my seeding off because in a week’s time I’m going home for Christmas. I’m so excited! I can’t wait to be on the plane home and hugging my family. Going home for Christmas is one of the best feelings in the world. I always play “Driving Home for Christmas” when I’m on the plane so now whenever it comes on I think of that happy feeling of seeing my loved ones very soon.
Speaking of Sweden and music, Jamie and I absolutely LOVED Mamma Mia yesterday. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched the film and listened to the soundtrack so seeing the musical was amazing as it originated on stage. I was one of those annoying people sitting and singing along to every song (quietly so no one heard me though!). There were loads more songs that weren’t included in the movie, which was an amazing surprise. Jamie said he really loved it too and we were talking on the way back home that we definitely need to go to the theatre more, it’s so much fun. Once again I left thinking it would’ve been so cool to be a musical performer. Especially for such a production as Mamma Mia with such an upbeat story and incredible songs. Is it too late for me? 😛
What’s on the agenda today? I didn’t go to the gym this morning as yesterday was quite late and my body was screaming for sleep. I slept so heavy last night I don’t even think I moved once. So the gym is booked in for this evening. Other than that I need to tidy up a bit at home, tick off some Christmas presents, sort out some blog stuff and some other bits and bobs.
Have a beautiful Lucia everyone,
