Hi guys! Here I’m sitting with about four hours of sleep trying to write this post. Yesterday was an absolutely incredible day for so many reasons and I think I need to split it up in smaller posts because otherwise this going to a very very long post and not very fun to read! In the morning I got picked up by Carole and Faye to go to Ray at Team Cavanagh for another weightlifting session. I was so excited to get back into weightlifting properly and get Ray’s expert advice.
We got there, warme up and then Ray just let us do snatches whilst he walked around and coached us. We started light and then as we nailed our technique he got us to add weight. I got up 30kg, then 33 (my previous PB) and then we continued over 33. I couldn’t believe it when the bar finished above my head time after time. I then got to 37kg on my bar and failed the first attempt. I felt nervous, you get nervous lifting heavy weights over your head but Ray said step away from the bar and rest, you’ve got this. I trusted him and took a break whilst he checked the other ladies and what they were doing. Then he turned back his attention to me and said just be fast under the bar. Basically don’t be scared and just do it haha.
I got into position and started pulling the bar. Somehow I landed in the squat with the bar above my head. What the hell? Where did that come from? 37kg!! I was so happy. Ray’s expertise is incredible, he’s a weightlifting magician. His coaching is so effortless and he knows exactly what to adjust to sort your technique out.
Faye did an incredible snatch of 41kg! I was so happy for her. Her snatch technique is so good. She’s built to throw weights around like they weigh nothing. It’s amazing. We finished off with some clean and jerks before having to leave for our next activity of the day. Thank you Ray for another amazing session. I’m really hoping we’ll be able to go to more in the new year.
I’ve really loved polishing up my weightlifting technique. It’s given me a new challenge and as much as it strength you’re mainly working it also challenges you mentally, you need to be on the ball, extremely focused, determined and precise if you want to ace your lift. It also pushes you out of your comfort zone and makes you grow. I love it, as much as it is frustrating, I love it.
I have no idea how this day is going to go when I’ve had such little sleep but just need to power through now. I’ve got so much to do before I leave on Wednesday. I have booked in to go to the evening class tonight at G5 but not sure how that will go! I woke up with a sore throat this morning so we will see how I feel later on today. Now I need to get ready and go into town to get organised. Wish me luck!
Speak soon my lovelies,
