Snatch time

Loving my new lifting shoes! They really do make you feel more stable.

Hello my dears! Here are some pictures from my super fun evening at Team Cavanagh with Carol and Lou from G5. We all felt we needed to polish up on our snatch technique and Ray was kind enough to let us join in for a bit on Thursday evening. I can’t believe it’s been as long as before Christmas since we were last there. Doesn’t feel that long!

MJ and Karen were also there from G5, it was really nice to see them too. After having a chat with Ray whilst warming up we then took a platform each to practice our snatches. It felt very odd for the body to move in that way again and the first couple weren’t pretty. I then started to get into the groove again.

One weird thing I’ve picked up all of a sudden is hitting the bar off my knees, which is not  great. So whilst I got a new PB of 38kg on my snatch (!!), I still felt like I could’ve managed the 39kg if I hadn’t got messed up with knees on the way up. I was still super happy to have improved my PB!

To finish off the session Ray got us all to do some overhead squats. I don’t think I’ve ever exactly tried to find out my one rep max overhead squat before so I was excited to see what it would be. Ray kept putting on weights and I was quite happy not knowing how much weight was on the bar! I ended up doing a 50kg overhead squat, which I was over the moon about. Overhead squat is one of my favourite movements, I love how you use your full body to complete it. It feels empowering! I can’t really explain why.

Yesterday I had a great afternoon spending time with Anki and Ellie. We went for lunch at Singl-end (of course) and sat there for absolute ages. Eventually we went into town to look in some shops. We ended up at Bobbi Brown in House of Fraser. When we were walking past my friend Lara was working and I of course couldn’t walk past without saying hi. Both Anki and Ellie ended up in their make up chair getting mini make up sessions. It was so much fun and Lara, she is just amazing at what she does! Not only is she an incredible make up artist but a fantastic spin coach as well.

Later on in the evening we went for some food at Non-Viet (Vietnamese restaurant on Sauchiehall Street) before going our separate ways to go to bed. I absolutely loved every single moment. Poor Jamie was still a bit under the weather so couldn’t join us but we’ll all go for dinner tonight before Anki leaves for Sweden again tomorrow.

Both Ellie and Anki are actually coming along to Metabolic Mayhem this morning to watch what we get up to at G5. They’re probably wondering why this place is all I talk about ever! I’m so excited for them to see one of my favourite places in the world, my second home here in Glasgow and all my amazing friends there.

I really think today is going to be a good day!
