The magic belt does it again

Hello lovelies! Yesterday I had an  amazing day of first going to Strong Mums in the morning and then in the evening I was back in the gym with Faye for some Open Gym fun! We haven’t done an open gym together for ages, Faye’s in her final semester of her final year at Glasgow School of Art so she’s got a lot on her plate, she still goes to classes but doesn’t quite have the time to join in on the open gym sessions at the moment so it was a nice treat to have her with me!

We warmed up with some rowing and then did rounds of  back squats and hip trusters. We gradually increased the weight on the squats whilst we kept the hip thrusts at 90kg. When the squats got really heavy we just did a rep or two each on them. I’ve been stuck around 70/71kg for so long on my back squat and just haven’t been able to even increase it by a kilo, until yesterday!

We got the good old magic weightlifting belt out, on it went and Faye encouraged me to put the weight up to 75kg. And yes, I got a new PB! It was heavy but it felt so much better with the belt on to keep the core nice and tight. I was so happy! She then went ahead and did a 85kg back squat! Such a powerhouse that lady.

We then headed home to mine because Faye and I were having a little sleepover! It was so nice to have her over for dinner and to stay for the night. I’d made the falafel or “Vegan Meatballs” from Green Kitchen Stories before I left for the gym with sweet potato wedges so it was nice to just be able to reheat all of it in the oven when we got back and just make some salads and a guacamole. It was so tasty! If I may say so myself!

Afterwards we sat in the living room with a cup of tea and tried out the new Almond Butter Cups from Juice Warrior. They were good but perhaps a bit dry? They tasted good but it wasn’t super exciting, I think we were both expecting something a bit gooier (is that how you spell it?) on the inside.

This morning we both sat with a hot drink in front of the TV watching the 18.4 announcement! I was so happy when Dave said deadlifts, then when he said  handstand push ups I was a bit less excited again haha. I can do a couple but not loads so it’ll be another interesting one for me attempting RX once again…

I’ll go into more detail of 18.4 in my recap post later on. We’re all doing our submissions tonight instead so we can get our Metabolic Mayhem class back tomorrow and open gym on Sunday. Nice to get some of our normal gym time back during the weekend.

Faye has now left for uni and now I’m going to check if Jamie’s awake yet. He was working last night but should be up about now.

Please wish me luck for 18.4! Speak soon my dears,

M xxx
