Thank you

Thank you thank you thank you for all the loving words and messages about my move to Australia yesterday. It’s been a scary decision but also very exciting as well. You never really know what is the right decision until you’ve tried it but I have a feeling this is going to be a very fun and exciting change. Reading all your messages made me feel so much more confident and happy in my decision.

This has been the case the entire decision making process Jamie, my friends and my family have all been so incredibly supportive and made it feel a lot easier to apply for visas, booking my flights and starting to get packed. It might seem like easy things but it’s not easy when I know Jamie and I will not be seeing each other for a while and the same with friends and family. Every step of the way is a little inner thought process of “oh god this is actually happening” and “if I start packing it will mean I’m really going”, which is both super positive and sad at the same time. There’s always some form of compromise when it comes to want to travel the world and it usually is leaving loved ones behind for a while. Something I don’t find easy. I wish more than anything I could take everyone with me!

Yesterday I was back in G5 for the early morning class. After all the eating Jamie and I had been doing in Edinburgh it was nice to get back into action with normal eating habits and training routines. As much as it’s nice to eat nice indulgent food, I feel my best when I eat healthily and train. I was paired up with Stella, we hadn’t trained together for a while so that was fun (and incredibly tough!). Keeping up with Stella’s speed isn’t easy but I did my best and the workouts were so good and challenging.

A new thing she added to the workout was DB cleans. You basically have to pick up a 30kg ball from the ground all the way up to your shoulder, requiring a lot of powerful hip movement to get the ball up as well as getting your arms under the ball (otherwise it didn’t go anywhere).  I’ve done a similar movement before, I can’t remember the name of them at the top of my head, but you pick the ball up and throw it over your shoulder. I really like those kind of strong full body lifting movements such as those cleans, farmers carries and running with the heavy balls. It makes you feel really strong and badass lifting heavy stuff. Flipping tyres are fun too!

We also did clean and jerks for the first time in ages. Jerks are really not my strongest movement, especially not split jerks. Stella got me to do 50kg clean and jerks. I can’t even remember what my PB is but if not 50 I’m sure it’s not far off it, so it was heavy for me. There were some dodgy ones in there but I noticed the more I did, my body got more and more used to the movement and even as my muscles got increasingly tired my jerks got more consistent and felt a lot better. I really need to practise them!

I did not finish all my packing yesterday (help!). I was meant to try and go to G5 this morning but nope I had to scratch that and finish the last bits. It would’ve been far too stressful in the end. Wishful thinking of me but I tried to make it work. I’ve now at least washed all my clothes so they’re clean (I think that’s a great start) so I just need to pack them. I’ve got two large suitcases and then two hand luggage bags hehe. Oh god it’s so much stuff but that’s what happens when you decide to move and have to bring stuff back to the parents to store. Wish me luck on getting to the airport with all of that… I will most likely end up having to get an Uber to the bus station and then I just have to get all the bags onto the Edinburgh Airport bus.

I’m really excited to see my family tonight! They’re arriving back from Nice today so they’ll be beautifully bronzed and I’ll be looking like a zombie next to them!

Now I really need to get going with this packing and getting ready!
