Stockholm Spring

Good morning from Stockholm! Some pictures of what I got up to yesterday here in Stockholm! I went to the gym a bit later in the day and thought it would be quiet but no it was full with people. Didn’t mind it, I found a platform to practise my snatches on. They’re still not great but I figure the more I practise the less difficult I’ll find them one day. A guy who was next to me tried to offer some tips when he could see I was struggling on the heavier weights. All the same stuff Stella and Ray have told me so many times by now to think about (all really valuable advice but it’s difficult to get it right when actually doing the movement) but this guy said that if I just change my technique slightly he thinks I could improve my snatching with at least 8kg. Don’t know how true that is but I was happy to hear that. Snatches are a love hate thing for me. I just don’t really feel I have progressed at all in them, I know I have but it’s just tiny increments at a time and that can get frustrating!

Afterwards I went back to my parents’ flat to get changed and ready to go for lunch with Anki (my step mum) near her work. Since it’s just a normal week here with no holidays or anything, almost everyone I know is busy during the days so this was a great way to get some time with Anki. It was lovely getting to talk her one on one for a bit about life and what’s going on in our lives. The time flew by and she had to head back to work whilst I headed out into sunny Stockholm.

I wandered down to the water with a matcha latte and sat on a bench to just look at this beautiful city for a while whilst listening to a podcast. It was a bit chilly in the air so I couldn’t sit for very long but it was amazing to just stare out over the water and at all the beautiful buildings. Stockholm really is stunning in the spring and summer months. It just comes alive.

I then went to look in some shops and headed back home. I wasn’t home for long until my cousin Mathilda called me and was passing the flat and asked if I wanted to go for a walk with her. Of course I said yes and headed down. I was meeting Sanna a bit later so it was perfect. I even got to see Mathilda’s new flat before it was time to head over to the Central station to meet Sanna for dinner. Her flat was lovely!

I was so happy to see Sanna again and we were both starving by the time we met up. Neither of us had any idea of what to eat either. We ended up at Vigårda (a burger place) because it was near by. Sanna had their portobello mushroom burger and I had the vegan bean burger, both of us ordered sweet potato chips. It was a tasty meal (not the best burger I’ve had but it was still tasty!). The sweet potato chips were yum! Afterwards we had a tea and coffee at Espresso House before heading home. Time just flies when I’m with that lady.

Right enough typing for me, I’m heading to the gym this morning and then after lunch I’m going to see my grandmother for a “fika” (a Swedish word for socialising or coffee/tea and cake). I’m driving there so wish me luck! I always get nervous before driving because I so rarely do it. I know it will be fine, it always is but it takes a while to feel comfortable behind the wheel.
