The colourful Brighton Bathing Huts are one of those sights you immediately associate with Melbourne. I remember Googling Melbourne for and seeing these eye catching little sheds and thinking that I’d one day hopefully be there. On Saturday we had a little afternoon trip down to Brighton Beach so I could see them in real life.
It was all set up for a lovely day on the beach, the sun was shining (even though there was an autumn chill in the air) but as the afternoon ticked by the clouds got darker and darker. By the time we got down to the beach it was overcast and was windy! Perhaps not the best day for a trip like this but we still had an amazing time there looking at all the different coloured sheds.
Standing there on the beach I just couldn’t believe I was there, on one of Melbourne’s beaches looking at these boxes. Dreams do come true (as cheesy as it sounds). I remember the last time we were leaving Australia about 15 years ago or so now and my dad was telling us to look out the window because we have no idea when we’ll next be back. Since then I’ve wanted to come back one day and now I’m here. I’m here, I’m here, I’m here and I’m going to be here for two years hopefully at least. I just need to do those three months of farm work to apply for my second year visa.
One thing that completely took my breath away at the beach was the Melbourne skyline full of skyscrapers which you saw when you looked further along the coast. Wow, it was something else. I can’t wait to go back down there on a sunnier and warmer day.
The past two days I’ve been in central Melbourne exploring. I met up with a girl called Laura who I have a mutual friend with back in Glasgow and she so kindly enough took me into town and showed me around. Then yesterday I was back in because I had a couple of things to sort out and I desperately needed some new black jeans.
I got back to the house just in time to get ready and then headed out the door down for another class at Crossfit Red Bluff. It was a fun class with three different parts. One of them was power cleans and box jump overs for three rounds. I messed up I realised afterwards with the weights (this converting pounds to kilos is complicated) and did a way lighter weight than I thought I did. I got confused thinking Pete the coach said two 15s when he said two 50s I think in hindsight (the Aussie accent getting me all confused!). Oh well, I learned my lesson and need to triple check that I’ve got the right weights on for next time hehe. It was still a good class but I do get a bit annoyed with myself when I mess up like that haha. Checking the weights on your bar feels pretty straight forward, evidently not hehe.
