A very late post today after a very eventful day! Melbourne was showing off it’s finest self once again with full on sunshine all day. I still can’t believe this is what they consider the beginning of winter! It is a bit chilly in the air but once the sun is out it’s roasting. I LOVE it.
This morning it was time for another session at the athletics track with the Crossfit Red Bluff crew. We started off with 100 metre sprints at different paces, working up to our 100m at 100%. Then we moved onto longer distances and pacing working down to shorter distances and a faster pace for the finals rounds. Quite a few of us showed up today and it was good fun, for being running. O
ne thing I have noticed just going to two sessions is how I pace myself. I’m being a lot more smart about how I run to make sure I’ve got enough energy in my tank to go all out on the final runs. Before I used to just kind of run at the same pace more or less (okay I didn’t sprint the longer distances but you know what I mean), now I feel like I’m being a bit more tactical about it all. It’s nice to have a plan when running, usually I just go out and run for a certain amount of time if I’m on my own. I don’t really sprint or anything so I enjoy the more structured approach this Sunday session has. It feels like you’re on a mission and have a plan on how to improve rather than just aimlessly running. It might be what I have felt has been missing all these years when I’ve been running.
After that sweaty start to the day I had a quick stop back at the house to get a post-workout smoothie and have a shower before heading to Baker’s birthday party. Baker is one of the Crossfit Red Bluff’s owners Adam’s dog. It was his third birthday today and there was a huge dog hangout in the park a bit further south of where I stay. It was the perfect day for it. When we got there there were probably about 20 dogs there. It was crazy! I’ve never see so many dogs in one place and you had no idea where to look, they were evwerywhere. It was amazing! They were all so happy and Baker was wearing a lovely bow tie and Birthday Boy badge for this special occasion. It was fun to see some of the guys from the gym too. We were there for a couple of hours and then a lovely girl Mish from the gym was so kind enough to drop me home on her way back.
This was also one of those, I can’t believe I’m here and doing this kind of moments. Just hanging with all my newly made friends in a park in Australia. It hasn’t been a month and I’m starting to feel like this place is slowly but surely becoming home. They’ve really welcomed me with open arms and I’m so incredibly grateful for that.
I had a quick lunch and then headed into the city (I’m so used to calling it town from Glasgow but here everyone calls central Melbourne the city) to try and sort out getting new contacts (would be nice to be able to see when my stash of contacts run out). I got an appointment tomorrow so I have to head into the city again then. Then I sorted out some final bits and pieces in town before heading home again.
A pretty good day and a nice way to end the week!
