One month in Melbourne

ONE MONTH has already passed of me being in Melbourne. I can’t decide if it feels like I’ve been here for longer or not. I think it’s gone by at lightning speed but also feels like I’ve been here for more than a month. I’ve experienced so many things in my first month here, met so many new incredible people and gone through other big changes. So far I’m absolutely loving it. Melbourne is such an incredible place to be, it’s got everything and even though it’s winter time here the weather has still been warm and sunny. I just can’t believe it whenever the sun is out for another full day. I feel spoiled getting so much nice weather. It did not happen a lot in Scotland!

I will always be so proud of myself for taking the leap, packing up my life in Scotland and moving across the world to start something new. I was so comfortable with my life in Scotland in many ways. It felt safe and so familiar and I probably could’ve stayed there for way longer because I liked it, I did. I just didn’t seem to find my place there or what I should do, which made me feel really down. Glasgow unfortunately isn’t very big and the opportunities within the industry I want to work in were quite slim so I definitely needed the change. Plus if I hadn’t had gone, Australia would always been that dream I never achieved. I feel like I would’ve lived to regret it.

I was really nervous coming here and wasn’t even sure when I landed that this was the right decision for me. I was worried I didn’t have a plan with my life, I was worried I wasn’t going to find a good gym, and I was wondering how on earth I was going to find new friends. All these worries were of course for nothing because it has all worked out so far. I’m still not entirely sure where life will take me next in terms of farm work but with gym and friends, I’ve hit the jackpot. They are amazing in Crossfit Red Bluff and today it’s actually been a month since I first joined the place. They’ve really made me feel at home and I feel like I’ve learnt so much and developed my training since I’ve started. I love hanging out in there and training with everyone. It’s the best.

So I of course had to celebrate my one month in Australia in some way. During the day I headed to South Melbourne Market with Nicola, Oscar and Zara for a bit to have a better look and yes I remembered my purse this time around which made everything a bit more enjoyable. It’s such a nice market, I love walking around all the different stalls. We had a lovely lunch there too. I had some delicious salads. Then in the evening I was in the gym for ages doing bits and pieces, nothing super intense but practised some handstand holds, handstand push ups, did the extra programmed weightlifting and then finished off with a more high intensity workout to get a little sweaty. The evening was finished off with a late night trip to Yo Chi in Balaclava for some VEGAN froyo. I didn’t even know that existed, and it was insanely good. I had coconut and chocolate honeycomb topped off with coconut flakes, strawberries, pineapple and a drizzle of peanut butter sauce. Yuuuuum!

I went to track this morning but my calves are playing up again after loads of double unders yesterday so I stopped towards the end, I didn’t want to push myself anymore. I was being to stubborn and I need to learn when to ease off. Then this evening Nicola and I are going to watch a Harry Potter spin-off play in St Kilda and then go to a Japanese place nearby for some dinner. I’m really looking forward to our girls night! Now time to head out and enjoy some of this gorgeous weather.

Speak soon, M xxx
