Unproductive Sunday

In lack of other photos, here is one from one of many beach walks! Quite close to Black Rock which is further down along the coast.

Hello my dears! I didn’t really know what to write on the blog yesterday. I was exhausted and slightly hungover (I’m not gonna lie). It ended up being quite a late one on Saturday. We started off at Perry’s where I was drinking a few glasses of wine too many hehe. I’ve been really enjoying my wine recently, for the first time in a really long time. So I’m embracing it and enjoying myself. We then headed to Chapel Street and went to a place called Lucky Coq and danced for hours. I can’t remember the last time I danced that much! In Glasgow I was so over going out to clubs and stuff but with being in a new place I’m finding it quite fun. Is party Maddie back? Haha weeell, I’m nowhere near as hardcore as I used to be but it’s fun to let the hair loose a little bit once in a while.

I ended up coming back to the house about just before five in the morning! No idea where all that time went but I had a lot of fun. It did make my Sunday a bit less productive plus the weather did not help at all! It was torrential rain on and off all day. At one point I even saw lightning for the first time in ages. So quite an alright day to not do anything. I woke up just after nine and then chilled for most of the day. The only time I ventured out of the house was for some food at Sebastian’s for a bit then I came back and fell asleep on the sofa in front of the TV. With only four hours sleep it’s perhaps not the most surprising thing… Then I put on We’re the Millers on Netflix. It’s such a funny film. I saw it in the cinema when it came out and it’s hysterical.

Once in a while I think days like these are alright but I definitely would not want to do it often because I prefer waking up early and feeling energised. That’s not quite what happened yesterday! It was a nice feeling waking up this morning after a good night’s rest, fit for fight. I went with Perry to the gym and we did the extra programming for the gymnastics and it was quite “full on” as they say here and then we finished off with a 10 minute AMRAP to work up a sweat. Good fun! We’re back in this evening to do the class. There were loads of deadlifts on the board so I’m looking forward to that.

I forgot to say!!! Saturdays’ class was soo good and I was incredibly happy with what I accomplished. It felt like I passed a new milestone in my lifting. We were working on our front squats and I haven’t front squatted in forever! I’ve been struggling on getting stronger on them and some of you might remember when I was ecstatic when I at G5 a couple of months ago managed my 60kg one rep max after struggling to get anywhere near that weight for months. I was wearing lifters, strapped on my magic belt and I was pushing with everything I had to get that bar up and perhaps not with the best form got it up.

On Saturday it was an entirely different story. I was wearing my lifters but no belt. I wasn’t sure how it would go. Mich and I shared a bar and quite quickly jumped up near to my one rep max. I got slightly nervous but my front squats had been feeling surprisingly strong so far. I managed 3 reps at 60 kg and they felt strong. Already there I had a new PB and it felt aaaaamaaaziiiing. I was buzzing. I then tried 61.2 kg to be exact (the life of lifting in pounds) and got it for three again. The last one was a struggle but I got it up and to be able to lift that many reps over my one rep max was the best feeling ever. It really feel like I smashed through this invisible glass ceiling I’ve been stuck at for ages. It’s one of the best feelings in the world. Then finally, I finished of with a new one rep max PB of 65.7kg (145lbs) and that was the cherry on top of a great lifting session.

It’s crazy how much I’ve progressed since starting at Red Bluff. I think especially with my squats because we’ve been doing this squat programme for the past couple of weeks. I’m really enjoying it! I wasn’t sure I was ever going to find a place I love as much as G5 but Red Bluff, you are amazing.

Right time to get some stuff done before I’m back for class this “arvo” (afternoon). Hope you guys have a beautiful morning/evening/day! It’s so confusing with all the time zones. I see you are from all over the world reading this so I’ll never get it quite right hehe.

Speak soon, M xxx
