Life update

A lot of things have happened since I sat on that beach in St Andrews!

Hi my dears! I feel like there’s been a lot of stuff happening in my life which I haven’t had a chance to address here on the blog so I thought this was the right time to sit down and update you on what’s been going on here in Australia!

Firstly, I think I have to address the elephant in the room. As you may have noticed, Jamie hasn’t been mentioned here on the blog for quite a while. We were still together when I left for Australia but since a couple of weeks ago we have parted ways. I might speak about it more in the future but for now that is all I want to share on here. I’m sure you guys understand!

Secondly, let’s talk about farm work and what I’m actually doing with my life here in Australia. I’ve been here for just over a month now and it’s time I really sorted everything out and got a plan for what I’m doing, which I have sort of. Next week Nicola’s mum is coming over from Scotland, which means it’s time for me to move out of the house (they’ve already let me stay for so long so it is really time!). Nicola and Stevie have been so incredibly welcoming and treated me as family even though we’re not anymore technically. I’m so incredibly grateful for how they’ve opened up their home for me and I don’t think there is ever a way I could repay them. They’ve made the beginning of my time here in Australia amazing. I’ve loved living with them and spending time with the kids. I love them like family and those kids, I can’t put into words how happy they make me. I know I’m not technically their auntie anymore but they’ll always have a special place in my heart and I know I’ll come around and visit as much as I can.

Before you start worrying if I’m going to be homeless or not, fear not. There is a solution and a pretty good one that I’ve been offered. Since Perry and his family are going away to Europe for a couple of weeks, they need someone to housesit and take care of their dog Taylor. They have so kindly asked if I would want to do that, it couldn’t have been better timing really. So yeah I get about three weeks or so with their cute 8 year old labrador Taylor. I’m so excited to spend loads of time with her hehe. We’ll be cuddling all the time.

Where does that leave me in terms of completing my farm work? Well this is when Perry’s family come to the rescue again, some friend’s of their’s own a vineyard outside of Melbourne and have said that in September they need people and are more than happy for me to come and work on the vineyard to complete my three months. How amazing is that? I’m really intrigued to see how it all works and to learn something new. Since it’s not too far from Melbourne either it means I can still pop into the city from time to time (I need to sort out the logistics of how it’s all going to work). It will also be slightly warmer here in Victoria around then (hopefully), which will be nice when you are outdoors all day. I just need to get it all confirmed with them.

In the mean time I’m going to find a temporary job to have something fun to do and to earn some money. Feeling a bit better now when a plan has sort of come together (I know it may still change).

That’s pretty much what it looks like at the moment. I thought it might clear up a few question marks you may have!

I’m just from another great day! It was freezing since the skies were clear last night but it also meant bright blue skies today. This morning’s cardio was a good class and I was happy with my finishing time. Then I made a little trip to the “city” (trying to stop saying “town” as you say in Glasgow because everyone calls it the city here haha) for a bit and headed back to the gym this evening to do the extra programming for weightlifting. It was a 15 minute workout and every 30 seconds you did a squat clean and a split jerk at 70% of your one rep max. At first my split jerk felt incredibly rusty (I haven’t done them in forever) but I felt they loosened up after a while. I really feel like my clean technique has improved this past month too. I’m feeling more speedy with the bar than I’ve ever done before. It’s something I’ve always been told with my olympic lifting, be more aggressive. It’s finally starting to get a bit more aggressive hehe.

Time for bed! Another day in Australia awaits tomorrow. It really is a new life now, starting afresh with new possibilities and I’m loving every second. This is only the beginning! With every end comes exciting beginnings. I wake up every day excited to see what it brings. So far it hasn’t failed to surprise me in the best possible way.
